Immaculate Conception High School’s students, like their peers during New Jersey, have been confronted with unpredicted problems in the pandemic, Principal Michele Neves explained.
The school was open for the whole 12 months, but some students had been remote for some or all of that time, as allowed under directives from Gov. Phil Murphy. On any offered working day, about 50 percent of the senior class was bodily in the structures.

“I just want to spotlight the solid sense of perseverance throughout the pandemic,” Neves explained.

That perseverance paid off: Equally of the school’s co-salutatorians, Jeremiah Campbell and Ehioze Aidaghese, will go to colleges on entire scholarships. Campbell will show up at Seton Corridor University. Aidaghese will go to Notre Dame University — generating the 2021 graduating class the second in a row to send a pupil to that school.

Neves stated several of the pupils will be attending traditionally Black colleges and universities.

“I’m tremendously very pleased of where they’re all heading — and a large percentage will be going on tutorial or athletic scholarships,” she reported.

The school honored its graduates with a June 5 graduation at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, close to the corner from the superior school’s campus. The program provided a surprise visitor speaker, Justin Fatica, founder of the Really hard as Nails ministry, which is focused on bringing the gospel to youthful men and women. Neves described him as “phenomenal, extremely encouraging, and extremely motivational — the children love him.”
